HOW YOUR DONATION HELPS

Exhibition

We present four major exhibitions annually, featuring local, regional, national, and international artists, with a focus on sparking conversation around socially relevant issues. Each July, the TimeLine exhibition highlights the accomplishments and hard work of our Resident Artists and Mentors. Your donation enables us to invite visiting artists to be “in-residence” at RedLine for two-to-four week periods, bringing new ideas, techniques, and approaches to our residency and education programs.

Residency

RedLine is home to a diverse group of resident artists, who dedicate 10 hours per week to their studio practice. Up to 10 emerging artists, five established artists serving as mentors, six high-school-age artists, and a resource artist participate in our residency program each year. Yes! That’s 22 artists exploring the boundaries of contemporary art. Your donation helps us offer 12 monthly career development workshops for our resident artists, and provides one-on-one mentoring by established professional artists.

Education

Our education programs primarily serve children and youth in our neighborhood in the City of Milwaukee – where the annual household income is the lowest in the city, and more than 90% of households are headed by women. PUBLISHED and ARTPRENTICE help public and charter school teachers integrate the visual arts into their curriculum, using our exhibitions as their textbook. Both include a gallery tour, artist studio visit, and a hands-on printmaking or papermaking project. PUBLISHED takes it deeper with multiple sessions that develop research and literacy skills. Similarly, SHELTER brings families who are temporarily homeless to RedLine for an in-depth experience that helps them explore relevant social issues through the doorway of art. And in the same way, CONTEMPORARY helps high-school youth cross the red line and develop their creativity, innovation, and critical thinking skills.

Community Programs

We want everyone to cross the red line! Anyone can register for our classes and family workshops, which might include holiday card-making, pancake screen printing (with chocolate!), and papermaking. Taught by professional artists and art educators, our classes are the perfect opportunity for you to have fun with a friend or family member, learn a new technique, or just get hooked on art!
