REDLINE PLEIN AIR ONE
A unique Mixed Media Plein Air Competition 2016
Tuesday, September 27 – Monday, October 3, 2016

DESCRIPTION
RedLine Milwaukee is hosting the first annual mixed media Plein Air Competition designed to capture the growth and changing life of the Haymarket District. All media is welcome, and use of RedLine Milwaukee Art Labs available*.

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Participation is open to anyone over 18.

RULES

  • A minimum of 90% of each submission must be completed within the event boundaries using a plein air method.
  • Artists must provide all necessary supplies, water, refreshments, extra clothing in case of inclement weather.
  • A work will be disqualified for judging if an artist is working from an iPad or photos, or inspiration is coming from outside the Haymarket District boundaries (East to the Milwaukee River; West to Pabst City; South to Juneau Street; North to Walnut Street).

PAINTING/EXHIBITION PERIODS

  • Painting – Tuesday, September 27 (10 am start) – Sunday, October 2
    (NOTE – RedLine is CLOSED on Sunday, October 2).
  • Exhibition – Thursday, October 6 – Saturday, October 14 at RedLine Milwaukee Gallery
  • Auction/Fundraiser – Friday, October 14 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

REGISTRATION

  • The first 50 artists who register will be accepted.
  • Application fee of $50 includes a one-year membership to RedLine Milwaukee’s Access Studio and Art Labs. Fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
  • Artists can submit up to two pieces.

  • Canvases, papers, panels or structures must be stamped at check-in prior to beginning work.

MATERIALS

  • Maximum material size is 18” X 24” unframed.
  • Maximum frame width is 4 ¼ inches; maximum mat width is 4 inches.
  • All media allowed. All assemblage and mixed media work must be original work made by the submitting artist.

SUBMISSION

  • All work must be submitted and ready for display at the RedLine Milwaukee Gallery by Noon on Monday, October 3. (We reserve the right to refuse any work not properly prepared, signed, or still wet and unframed).
  • Submission times: Tuesday, September 27 – Thursday, September 29

PRICING/COMMISSION/SALES

  • Sales of all works will be collected by RedLine Milwaukee.
  • 35% commission on all works sold will be donated to RedLine Milwaukee, a non-profit 501 (c)(3). Artists will receive the remaining 65% of sale price, minus merchant processing fees.
  • Works will be sold at the price selected by the artist.
  • No price changes allowed after submission of work.
  • Payments will be mailed to address shown on registration form within 2 weeks following sale.
  • A 10% finder’s fee on all off-easel or post-exhibit sales back to RedLine Milwaukee is required to help off-set event costs.
  • Please attach a card with your name, title, medium, size and sale price to back of each work.

JUDGING

  • Works will be judged on composition, use of materials/techniques, and how well work captures the Haymarket District.
  • Award winners will be notified the evening of Wednesday, October 5th, preceding the opening day of the exhibition.

(Artists may win only one award)

ART PICKUP

  • All work must be picked up by artist or a pre-registered designated agent on Saturday, October 15 – 10:00 am to Noon.
  • Abandoned works will be donated to RedLine Milwaukee.

LIABILITY

  • By registering for this competition, artist agrees to bear all risk and expense for any loss, theft or damage to their work or other personal property or injury to their person. The artist also agrees to be responsible for insuring their artwork, and to abide by rules established by RedLine Milwaukee.

STUDIO ACCESS

* RedLine’s printshop, paper making studio and textile facilities may be used AFTER participant completes an orientation.

  • Printshop & Art Labs orientation dates and times: 9/20 at 6:00 pm,9/22 at 4:00 pm, 9/24 at 10am.
  • Otherwise, we offer orientations on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:00 pm and by appointment.
