RedLine Milwaukee invites people of all ages and skill levels to join us for a communal art-making workshop that will honor the tradition of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. In the spirit of the holiday, participants may contribute to RedLine’s public altar, screenprint a piece of their own clothing to wear to Milwaukee’s Día de los Muertos parade, and hear a bit about the traditions behind the celebration from Parade Director Celeste Contreras. No experience is necessary, as instruction will be provided.

Add your art to the altar!   The simple photogram process, often referred to as a form of ‘painting with light,’ will be introduced, and, using RedLine’s darkroom, participants will compose images using found objects. Everyone is encouraged to bring small objects of personal significance to create the images, which will be added to RedLine Milwaukee’s public altar (on view through November).

Screenprint your own t-shirt for the parade!   An assortment of Dia de los Muertos designs created by Celeste Contreras and artists from RedLine Milwaukee will be provided to screenprint directly onto clothing or fabric that participants bring. Milwaukee’s 5th Annual Dia de los Muertos parade will be held on Saturday, November 1, from noon-5 p.m. at Walker Square Park (http://diadelosmuertosmilwaukee.com/).

Please bring a clothing item or piece of fabric to create your print and small figurines or other objects of personal significance to create photograms.

Workshop Refund Policy | No refunds are issued for workshops.

Photo Permissions Policy | Participation in RedLine Milwaukee’s programs and events constitutes an agreement by the participant and/or the parent or guardian to authorize RedLine to photograph or film participants and/or the projects they make, without compensation, for use in website and marketing efforts.
